Hoya fauziana ssp. fauziana in Bloom

Some hoyas make you stop and look twice. Hoya fauziana ssp. fauziana is one of them — long, lance-shaped leaves on trailing vines, and then, when it decides to show off, a cluster of pink blooms. The video at the top of this post shows ours up close.

This is the nominate subspecies of Hoya fauziana, a species native to Borneo. It is known for those long, narrow leaves and softly fuzzy, star-shaped flowers with prominent centers. Its close relative, ssp. angulata, looks similar but carries its flowers on angled stems — on ssp. fauziana, the flower stems run straight.

Care is classic hoya: bright indirect light, a well-draining mix, and letting the soil dry a little between waterings. One tip that matters most with a blooming hoya — do not cut the flower stalk after the blooms fade. Hoyas rebloom from that same stalk, so leaving it alone is how you get a second show.

If you grow this one, we would love to see it in bloom. You can browse the rest of the shop at yourhappyplant.com.
